Common Questions

Is whitening safe?  Does it really work?

michigan cosmetic dentistry, shelby cosmetic dentistry, implants pontiac, shelby dentist We’ve done hundreds of teeth whitening procedures in our office and we’ve always found that it’s safe and effective. Our patients have been thrilled with their results!

We offer two kinds of whitening in our office: Zoom! in-office bleaching and take-home tray whitening. You’ll receive similar results with both methods; it’s really a matter of personal preference. We’ll be glad to explain each procedure and help you decide on what’s best for your particular situation.

How do the doctors and staff keep up to date with dental techniques and procedures?

Because they are truly committed to providing patients with the best possible dental care, the doctors and the members of their dental team take many hours of continuing dental education each year. This allows them to incorporate the most modern, most effective dental techniques, equipment and devices into their practice.

How does an intraoral camera help with my dental care?

michigan cosmetic dentistry, shelby cosmetic dentistry, implants pontiac, shelby dentist With an intraoral camera we can take photos inside your mouth and then display them, greatly magnified, onto one of the monitors that you’ll find in all our operatories.  With the intraoral camera, we can take a closer look at any questionable areas in your mouth so we can determine what’s actually going on. Just as important, we can show you what we’re seeing so you can make better, more informed decisions about your dental treatment. An intraoral camera helps you become a true partner in your dental care.

I’ve heard something about gum disease causing harm to other parts of my body.  Can you explain?

We’ve known for many years that periodontal disease can destroy your gums and the bone beneath them, causing you to lose teeth. But now researchers have established a link between the bacteria that cause periodontal disease and systemic health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke and problems in pregnancy.

The bottom line: periodontal disease is a serious infection that should not be ignored. If you have any symptoms of periodontal disease, such as gums that bleed when you brush, please make an appointment with us immediately so we can evaluate the problem and begin treatment if necessary.

We’ve found that somewhere around age three is a good time for a child’s first trip to the dentist.  We’ll do everything possible to make the visit a fun, positive experience for your child.
